The brief was for a modest weekender that was simple in design, easy care and took advantage of the spectacular views of the Purakanui inlet and beach just north of Dunedin. The design mitigates the steep, challenging site by stepping down the slope with the entry and open plan kitchen, dining, living area on the upper level leading out to a generous deck to the view. Two bedrooms and a bathroom occupy the lower level with a bedroom deck connected back to the main deck level. Simple forms and utilitarian cladding add to the holiday vibe.
