Situated in the Dunedin suburb of Maori Hill, this popular restaurant occupies a completely new building referencing, from the outside at least, the original late victorian shop it replaced (the original was beyond repair). The street frontage is appropriately modest in scale with display windows either side of a central entrance complete with verandah roof over and parapet detailing. This however, belies the scale encountered as you step through the door where a lower ceiling height at the entry transitions into a large lofted space containing the bar, coffee and main dining spaces. Coved ceilings enhance the sense of space and draw the eye to views through the large north facing windows at the rear. Stairs lead down to the lower level containing a smaller dining area plus kitchen and services, then onto a sunny, sheltered outdoor space complete with outdoor fire. Beyond is a kitchen garden that services the restaurant.
